AN INTRODUCTION TO MILLINERY
FOR MORE INFORMATION AND PRICING
Millinery covers a vast area and I offer workshops to teach students how to design and create unique hats. I provide instruction in traditional and contemporary techniques, and use antique millinery tools and equipment.
The classes are held at my studio in Boulder, with a maximum of four students per class to ensure personal attention. Students work at their own pace in a relaxed environment, and no previous sewing experience is necessary.
I also offer specialized private classes for those individuals or groups who wish to develop and advance their millinery skills by receiving a more tailored and personal service.
During the classes, students will learn various skills and techniques including:
- Block making (in buckram or sparterie);
- Trimmings (e.g. feathers, ribbons, flowers);
- Flower making; and
- Poupee/dolly making.
These skills and techniques will then be applied to make the following:
- Straw, leather and felt hats;
- Blocked fabric hats, and fabric hats made from a pattern;
- Cocktail hats/fascinators;
- Bridal head-dresses and veiling; and
